Director, Research Planning and Development - (Part- Time)

The Director, Research Planning and Development, position is responsible for the strategic planning and development of major research programs defined by the Operational Priority (OP) titled “Decisive Discoveries,” as well as high priority institutional initiatives to be coordinated though the Institute of Personalized Cancer Therapy (IPCT). This position will facilitate interactions with participating faculty and staff, as well as collaborations between departments, divisions and, as applicable, other institutions, the private sector, and/or industry, in support of the defined research initiatives and to help achieve initiative goals and deliverables. The incumbent will also work closely with institutional leadership and Co-Directors of the IPCT to regularly assess and communicate accomplishments, challenges, funding status, and/or need for resource reallocations as appropriate.
KEY FUNCTIONS
1. Research Planning and Development
• Advise in the planning, development and implementation of defined major research programs and initiatives. Develop and review analyses, proposals, and progress reports as requested.
• Define, oversee, and evaluate implementation of strategies to establish and enhance collaborations and interactions between participating faculty and staff.
• Develop novel strategies to support and enhance selected OP and IPCT research initiatives.
• Assist in the planning of research meetings, retreats, and special events to support or enhance OP and IPCT research initiatives and collaborations.
2. Special Projects
• Develop scientific activities to foster new research opportunities and/or industry or private sector partnerships.
• Advise institutional leadership regarding inclusion of OP and IPCT activities in Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) progress reports, competitive renewals, and site visit presentations, and other institutional reports as requested.
• Develop communications to advise internal and external faculty of opportunities to participate in special projects of the OP and IPCT.
• Facilitate collaborations with other UT System, Texas Medical Center, regional or national institutions and entities as appropriate.
Education
Preferred: At least seven years of extensive experience in research program development.
Required: Bachelor's degree in science or medically related field, business or healthcare administration.
Preferred: Ph.D. degree in science or medically related specialty
Experience
Required: Eight years experience in an academic research setting facilitating research program development and management of research resources. With preferred degree, five years of required experience. May substitute required degree with additional years of experience in research administration management at MDACC on a one to one basis.
Preferred: At least seven years of extensive experience in research program development.
