**The ideal candidate will be ASCP certified and have a pathology background as well as previous supervisor/manager experience.**
The Pathology Department provides diagnostic services and specialized testing for patients with solid tumors. Our pathologists are subspecialized and have clinical and research expertise in a range of solid tumors. In addition, our pathologists collaborate with other clinicians to customize each patient’s treatment based on his or her individual diagnosis.
The Pathology Department accomplishes this mission in three different areas.
Diagnosis
Surgical pathology and cytopathology provide the diagnostic backbone for patients seen at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and our internationally recognized pathologists are important members of the clinical management teams. This service is provided to all M.D. Anderson Cancer Center patients and includes review of material obtained and evaluated elsewhere as well as those obtained at the hospital. This review has been shown to be of significant importance in both terms of quality of care and economic benefit. In addition, the Pathology Department sees second opinion consultations through our outside consultative services. These second opinion consultations from around the globe represent a substantial portion of our caseload.
Research
Both clinical and basic science research are critical in supporting the mission of eliminating cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world. The research performed by our faculty has received high recognition both nationally and internationally and are published in notable, high impact medical journals. The Pathology Department faculty are key members of several research initiatives, including the Cancer Moon Shots and the largest number of National Institute of Health (NIH) Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs).
Education
The Pathology Department provides comprehensive educational opportunities to trainees, medical observers, and practicing pathologists in the community through a variety of clinical and research fellowships, continuing medical education (CME) lectures and conferences, and observerships. In addition, our faculty routinely lecture at national and international conferences and have authored a substantial number of textbooks across the entire spectrum of oncologic pathology.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Clinical and Research Operations
• Manages requests for clinical research in departmental laboratories and participates in operations and budget planning for these. •Facilitates Clinical Trials in collaboration with ECOG-ACRIN bank and National Trials Clinical Network including HAL’s or other off-site laboratories. •Functions as departmental liaison to Divisional Operations Director and Program Manager to implement clinical research operations and systems within the department, and across departments in the division. •Oversees appropriate invoicing, payment and distribution of payments, IDT’s and cost transfers across department.
Fiscal/Budget Management
•Manages requests for reference lab testing and oversees development of appropriate charge master codes and ensures reconciliation of invoices and payments. •Manages and oversees physical inventory and asset management processes •Assists the Department Administrator in development and review of the budgets across the department and with management of assigned budgets. •Oversees review and appropriateness of section charge masters and recommends modifications based on knowledge of billing compliance guidelines.
Strategic Planning
• Assists administration and management in performance management and development of goal alignment initiatives. •Leads and participates in Quality and performance improvement initiatives as required. •Supports department administrator in optimizing human resource development and utilization.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related Allied Health field. Seven years of experience in allied health care or basic science field to include three years in a supervisory capacity. Certified in one or more Allied Health Programs.
