Business Systems Analyst (Epic, SQL) -Institutional Analytics & Informatics
Institutional Analytics & Informatics Vision:
Enable informatics and analytics across service lines by providing the right information to the right people at the right time with the right tools. The Insitutional Analytics & Informatics team is focused on building the infrastructure and creating the capabilities necessary for sustainable clinical data delivery. With ongoing changes in the national health care environment, data will be increasingly required to optimize medical practice. Effective health care delivery must be of high quality and at a reasonable cost. Clinical information management using enterprise-wide vocabularies, data modeling, business intelligence solutions and natural language processing are key enabling technologies. We are the enterprise data architects and infrastructure experts.
Participating in the gathering and documentation of functional, technical, integration, and data requirements in order to design, develop, test, implement and support enterprise data integration, data warehousing, Big Data and reporting in a complex environment.
Requirements Gathering, Stakeholder Management
**In order to be adequately prepared and trained to build, test and optimize the Epic system, MDA requires that Epic certification be obtained within 120 days of completion of the assigned, required training classes. Required certifications must be maintained as assigned.**
• Gathers and documents business, data integration, and analytical/reporting requirements for data warehouse systems, Big Data Platform, and Business Intelligence solutions.
• Determines whether integration effort can be performed within the task deliverable or requires Business Intelligence efforts.
• Identifies stakeholders and formulate engagement plans.
• Maintains effective relationships with customers, vendors, project team members and management. Acts as a liaison between the business customers and technical resources.
• Serves as a trusted technical/business subject matter expert and advisor to business customers.
• Communicates problems/issues that may arise in determining solution feasibility and alternatives to the project manager or manager.
• May design and develop training materials and coordinate training sessions for customers.
• Promotes institutional data management strategies.
Complex Data Analysis, Data Curation, Solution Design & Integration
• Performs complex data profiling and analysis (including feasibility studies, functional requirements analysis, process workflows). Designs simple to complex queries using structure query language.
• Conducts data curation activities, including cleansing, standardizing, harmonizing (combining), and grouping data, as well as defining metadata and monitoring quality.
• Converts requirements into comprehensive detailed technical design specifications (source to target mappings, integrations, databases, data flows, transformations, interfaces, visualizations, reports, etc.) for data integration and analytical solutions.
• May develop initial data integration workflows (ETL/ELT) using self-service data preparation/integration tools and big data technologies.
• May coordinate or assist in creating data models or developing visualizations and reports.
Testing, Implementation & Support
• Performs and/or assists in activities related to the assessment, implementation, testing, and support of data integration in data warehouse systems, Big Data Platform, and Business Intelligence solutions.
• Plans, develops, and executes comprehensive testing efforts, including test plans, and test scripts. Performs high level data validation to determine if code is working correctly.
• Triages and provides immediate support to the user community. Coordinates effective and timely issue resolution, documentation, and risk mitigation, seeking input from other MDACC resources and/or vendors as appropriate.

Bachelor's degree.
Certification Required:
None
Preferred Certification:
Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)
Experience Required:
Two years experience in Epic software, domain, project management or workflow analysis. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis or completed years of college on a one to one basis.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with Epic Clarity, Oracle HDWF, Big Data, and/or Hadoop.
Experience implementing a clinical data warehouse in a healthcare environment.
Project management experience.
