The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The ideal candidate will be a Physician Assistant with at least 1 year of experience.  Prior Endocrine strongly preferred.  Experience in Pediatrics is a plus.
 
The primary purpose of the Physician Assistant position is to provide quality patient care in relation to the patient’s prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development, and other identified needs.
 
 
KEY FUNCTIONS
Provide Direct Medical Skills Within Scope of Practice:
Has primary responsibility for working with department faculty physicians to assist in covering the outpatient and inpatient clinical practice for the Endocrinology and Endocrinology—Diabetes and/or Pediatric Endocrinology services.
Must be able to independently initiate monthly assignments without supervision. 
Attend Endocrinology Multidisciplinary Conference weekly.
Attend Division of Internal Medicine Grand Rounds and/or Division of Pediatric Grand Rounds.
Share responsibility, with other department advanced practice professionals, for coverage of faculty clinics, attending-on-service (AOS) and inpatient services, triage of Endocrine Center new patients and consultations, and coordination of the scheduling of these patients.
Primary area of assignments listed below vary based upon the needs of the clinical practice and available staff:
Outpatient Services: Endocrinology (Adult and/or Pediatric) or Endocrinology—Diabetes
Attend clinic with physician and conduct preliminary assessments on physician's new, consult and follow-up clinic patients.
Maintain independent outpatient clinics, under supervision from a faculty physician, as assigned.
Inpatient Services: Endocrinology (Adult) or Endocrinology--Diabetes
Attend Inpatient Rounds under the direction of the Endocrine and/or Diabetes Attending’s on Service and Fellow(s).
Perform inpatient consultations and follow-up visits, as assigned by the Endocrine and/or Diabetes Attending’s on Service.
New Patient and Consultations Triage and Evaluation.

Provide Quality Patient Care:
Provide quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.
Perform and record histories, physical assessments and progress notes within 24 hours. Order routine tests appropriate to the services provided under such orders.  Access biopsy and laboratory reports. 
Order patient medications and treatments within authorized limited prescriptive authority consistent with institutional delegated prescriptive authority policies and procedures.
Perform routine admission procedures.  
  
Education / Research / Collaboration:
Participate and collaborate on clinical research protocols, under direct supervision of faculty physicians. 
Interview patients and review the eligibility criteria to identify potential patients for protocol studies. 
Schedule and conduct follow-up appointments.
After first year in position, serve as Team Leader for advanced practice professionals in rotation schedule, as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required:

Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association.

 

EXPERIENCE

Required: 

None

Preferred: 

Minimum of 1 year as Physician Assistant. 

Prior experience in Endocrine or Pediatrics.

 

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required:

PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
