Physician Assistant (Breast Surgery) - Sugar Land
MD Anderson is seeking a Physician Assistant for their Sugar Land location.
Physician assistants at MD Anderson Cancer Center partner with physicians in achieving excellence in oncology patient care. MD Anderson has surpassed 300 physician assistants, and that number continues to grow as more departments come to rely on the skills, knowledge and abilities of physician assistants to ensure that the highest quality of care is delivered to all patients
SUMMARY
Provide exceptional direct and indirect breast surgical oncology care/services while working with an attending physician clinically, administratively, and academically. Depending on the position, the advanced practice provider may participate in surgery as first or second assist with the supervising physician. The use of a scalpel, electric knife, surgical instruments, sterile technique, and compliance with operating room rules and regulations are also necessary. Trained observational skills will be important.
SALARY RANGE $93,600 - $117,000 - $140,400
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties are outpatient, taking care of patients in inpatient, and assisting in the operating room.
Perform history and physical examinations for new, consultation and follow-up patients.
Obtain the history and physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and therapeutic test/procedures in coordination with Faculty supervising physician.
Obtain test results using the MDACC and community hospital computer systems.
Formulate an assessment and plan for each patient in coordination with the Faculty supervising physician.
Dictate or manually transcribe a patient note.
Perform minor surgical procedures which may include wound debridement, suture/staple removal, drain placement or removal, seroma evacuation, biopsies, and other procedures as delegated by the supervising physician.
Manage pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with the Faculty supervising physician.
Provide patient education.
Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team.
EDUCATION
Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association. No experience. All of the following: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
CERTIFICATION
Preferred: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
EXPERIENCE
Required: None.
Preferred: APP experience in a surgical setting.
