The primary purpose of the Painter position is to provide skilled craftsmanship as a journeyman painter in applying various types of finishes to include the construction, maintenance and repair of building structures, components and systems.  The painter position also performs routine maintenance and repairs on all buildings, systems, mechanical equipment and their respective areas with minimum supervision and is responsible for inspecting all painting work for quality, production, and compliance to the standard practices for the Research & Administrative Facilities at all UTMDACC South Campus locations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Scrapes, sandpapers and size surfaces preparatory to refinishing.  Matches and applies paints, varnishes, shellac enamels and other finishes.  Cleans and cares for brushes and other equipment.  Paints and refinishes a wide variety of items.  May patch sheetrock and/or repair various wall finishings.
 
Maintain Facility Appearance, Functionality and Safety •Performs skilled painting of facilities, buildings and equipment.  Patch by scraping, floating, sanding and sizing surfaces in preparation for painting.  Mix, match and apply paints, varnishes, shellac enamels, and other finishes.  Paint and refinish a wide variety of surfaces.
•Ensure that MDACC standard colors are utilized when painting facilities.  Maintain color specification booklet for the South Campus.
•Erects or rigs scaffolds; uses stilts. Cover woodwork and furniture to protect it from paint spills.  Remove spattered paint after job is complete. Unload and move supplies and equipment to and from the job location.
•Respond to client, critical, and facility equipment alarms, code reds, etc.
•Cleans assigned areas.
 
Reduce Operating Costs and Maintain O&M Warehouse Inventory  •Clean and care for brushes, rollers, spray guns and other equipment.  Understand the use of all hand and shop tools of the trade.
•Specify and order particular paints, colors, painting supplies, tools, and materials needed to conduct daily activities.
 
Increase Customer Focus and Satisfaction   •Talk with Clients to determine what work needs to be completed and the feasibility of the job.
•Respond quickly to Client “Dispatch” work order requests for a variety of tasks.
•Complete all required paperwork – timesheets, activity logs, etc.
 
Maintain an Efficient Response to Work Orders and Reduce/Balance Workload for Other Shops   •Performs installation of locks and door closures, rough concrete laying and patch plastering, carpet and floor maintenance, installs ceiling tiles and grids, troubleshoots, etc.  Perform carpentry tasks such as construction, repair and maintenance of wood structures and articles.
•Respond to client, critical, and facility equipment alarms, code reds, etc.

Other duties as assigned
 
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of painting experience.
