Are you a Mandarin Medical Interpreter? Can you precisely and accurately interpret medical advice and information given by the provider to help patients communicate with medical staff, doctors and nurses? If so, this may be the ideal position for you!!! The Language Assistance Department is an essential resource to facilitate communications between Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients and health care providers at MDACC.
 
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical sciences and must have an acceptable level of knowledge of medical terminology. Must be able to interpret/translate words such as tumor, malignant, leukemia and other medical terms.
 
 
Salary range: min-$38,800    mid-$49,500    max-$60,200
 
All MDACC Medical Interpreters/Translators have been screened and qualified by the Language Assistance department, and they are evaluated for proficiency and competency on a regular basis. The most requested languages are Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, and American Sign Language.
 
They interpret from one language to another, playing a crucial role in staff-patient communications. Interpreters will not answer patients' medical questions, but rather guide patients to the proper resources. All medical questions are to be answered by the appropriate health care provider, and other patient concerns are to be handled by the staff specialized in the issue of concern.
 
 
SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of the Mandarin Medical Interpreter/Translator is to provide interpretation and translation services to all institutional departments for patient care.  In this regard, the Interpreter/Translator acts as part of the appropriate team within the hospital, and makes communication possible across language barriers while maintaining patient confidentiality.
 

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree in a foreign language or related field.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Required: One year of medical interpretation in a clinical setting or related experience.

 

May substitute required education degree with additional years of related experience on a one to one basis.
