Major Project Design Support
Ensures design continuity throughout the institution. Serves as a Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction (FPDC) Architectural/Engineering Team (A/E) member on all major projects. Assists in the development of Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) submittals. Assists in the process of qualifying and selecting professional design firms for the purpose of contracting professional design services. Acts as the FPDC A/E project liaison with external consultants. Reviews architectural design for alignment with scope and program along with the coordination of Owner Design Guidelines. Reviews and provides comments on design reviews, design plans, details, specifications and project deliverables prepared by consultants. Observes the progress of projects during the construction phase in order to determine compliance with construction documents. Communicates design issues and outcomes addressed during the implementation of major projects which impact finish standards, Owner Design Guidelines, design details, building and planning codes and life safety considerations.
Interior and Exterior Materials and Finishes
Works with the FPDC Facility Planning team to ensure that interior materials proposed on projects meet Owner Design Guidelines, project and other institutional goals. Provide guidance and reviews as needed on interior finish options, specifications, design details and construction submittals for projects. Ensures that exterior design and materials proposed on projects meet Owner Design Guidelines, project and other institutional goals. Provides guidance and review on exterior finish options, specifications, design details and construction submittals.
Building Codes and Building/Site Planning
Stays current with applicable building codes including IBC, NFPA, FGI, TDSHS, etc. Provides code analysis and consulting to FPDC on renovation and new construction projects. Provide FPDC with assistance in project planning that involves architecture including site planning, parking, vehicular and pedestrian flows, landscaping and coordination with utilities.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Architecture. Ten years design/architectural experience. Eligible to receive a Registered Architect license issued by the State of Texas.
Preferred: Master's degree.
