MD Anderson is seeking a Physician Assistant for their West Houston location in the Radiation Oncology Service.

 

Physician assistants at MD Anderson Cancer Center partner with physicians in achieving excellence in oncology patient care. MD Anderson has surpassed 300 physician assistants, and that number continues to grow as more departments come to rely on the skills, knowledge and abilities of physician assistants to ensure that the highest quality of care is delivered to all patients.

 
SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Physician Assistant position is to perform the increasingly independent and complex tasks of a routine and standardized nature, which would otherwise be performed by a physician.  The incumbent in this position will provide advanced patient care in relation to the patient’s prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development, and other identified needs.  This position provides quality direct and/or indirect patient care clinically, administratively and/or academically.  The incumbent in this position will provide direct radiation oncology services to patients within the education, training, and patient care parameters of the Houston Area Locations.  The duties of this position are carried out in accordance with policies established by the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff and consistent with the Texas State Board of Physician Assistants and Medical Examiners, and existing state laws.

 

Ideal candidate will have prior Physician Assistant experience in a Radiation Oncology Setting and will have BLS certification.

 

SALARY RANGE $93,600 - $117,000 - $140,400

 
KEY FUNCTIONS

Clinical Patient Care

Provides quality patient care in relation to the patient’s prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.  Performs patient assessment, writing progress notes and/or orders which are accurate, clear, legible and complete according to the standards set by Medical Records. 

 

Performs dictations in a timely, thorough, well-organized, and accurate manner.  Performs written work in a thorough, accurate, well-organized and legible manner.  Completes, notes summaries, evaluations, and other medical records using the standards set by the Department of Medical Records. 

 

Consistently performs indicated diagnostic/therapeutic procedures as directed by medical staff.

 

Based on working knowledge of underlying pathophysiology, utilizes advanced assessment skills to anticipate complex patient problems (physiologic or psychological) specific to Medical Oncology. 

 

May be required to participate on the West Houston Code Blue Team.


EDUCATION

Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association. No experience. All of the following: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.


CERTIFICATION

Preferred: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

 

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

EXPERIENCE

Required: None.

Preferred:  Prior Physician Assistant experience in a Radiation Oncology setting.
