Cashier
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Cashier/Food Cart Attendant is to perform cash handling transactions for food and beverage sales in day-to-day operations and provide front line service in the operation of the food and beverage venues in the Department of Dining Services.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Cash Handling Verifies assigned bank is correct and sets up register. Performs cash handling transactions in accordance to Institutional and Departmental guidelines. Checks out each customer by checking employee ID’s, examining items on trays and properly charging for them. Provides each customer with an error free register tally of the total meal transaction. Gives each customer a receipt and correct change. Prepares and verifies daily sales totals with supervisor at end of shift. Deposits money at end of shift.
Customer service Exhibits good guest relation skills with patients, visitors, employees and managers. May prepare and serve beverages and food items. Maintains a high level of professionalism through cooperation and receptiveness to others. Offers assistance to patients, visitors, and staff of all ages, races, cultural backgrounds, beliefs and disease processes. May train new employees as assigned by management.
Inventory Management/Sanitation and Safety Maintains area by replenishing condiments, food items, trays, plastic-ware and napkins as needed.
Maintains a safe and sanitary work area by disposing of clutter around register area; cleaning counter tops frequently, and keeping work area free of personal belongings.

Other duties as assigned. May be moved to new locations and/or shifts as operations dictate. Cross training may also involve shift changes.

EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Six months experience as a cashier in a large volume operation or successful completion of the Dining Services Apprentice Program.
